Jolien specialises in collective actions under the Dutch Mass Claims Settlement Act (WAMCA). She assists various representative organisations in complex disputes against large (listed) companies. She was also closely involved in a large collective settlement of mass claims in the Netherlands.
Before joining Birkway, Jolien worked as a lawyer at Loyens & Loeff, where she advised clients on real estate and investment management. After that she worked as a corporate lawyer at a large international company. In this role she gained extensive experience in drafting and negotiating contracts.
Jolien obtained her bachelor’s law degree (cum honore) from the University of Amsterdam and completed the double master’s degree Toga aan de Maas (civil law) at Erasmus University Rotterdam. During her studies, she participated in an exchange programme at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, and worked as a clerk of the court at the Court of Appeal in The Hague for several years. Jolien is fluent in Dutch and English.
